Central Library – Photos of the Basement.
In 2011, the Central Library building of the Madison Public Library began a major remodeling project. Trent Miller, the Library Curator, invited artists to create art based on existing spaces before it faced major remodeling. I visited the basement area which was the main repository storage area for periodicals and books that were not on the public stacks. I created two photo projects as a record of the area. The first was mostly a documentation of the many items that were stored in the space. The timing of the remodeling took place as books were being replaced with digital content. It seemed like the right time to record these artifacts before they were distributed to another life
